 "IMAGINE" Graduation Fair

March 6 and 7, 2018

An event is being planned for all May 2018 degree candidates to answer all of your questions and be sure you have taken care of all the details necessary to graduate (short of those pesky final exams!!).  It typically takes less than 30 minutes to visit the necessary representatives, and your attendance gives you the opportunity to win prizes.

Come and talk with representatives who can give you straight answers to your questions... Registrar's Office, Business Office, Financial Aid, Graduate School, Moffett Library, MSU Bookstore, Career Management Center, Student Support Services, University Development, and Alumni Relations.

Let us help make your last semester less of a "roller coaster ride" and give you the chance to take care of everything for graduation in one stop.  This event is for the 2018 May graduation candidates; the 2018 August and December candidates will be invited to an Imagine Graduation Fair in the fall.

The doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. ceremony.  Graduates should arrive no later than 9:15 a.m.  Report to ROOMS 1 and 2 of the MPEC (separate building adjacent to the Wichita Falls Kay Yeager Coliseum.)  Use the entrance to the left of the flags.  Signs will indicate where the graduates will line up.  Family members and guests will not be allowed in the graduate line up area and should proceed to the Wichita Falls Kay Yeager Coliseum.  As commencement draws a large audience, elderly persons and others who need special assistance should plan to arrive as early as possible.  We anticipate the ceremony will last about two hours.  After the recessional, graduates will proceed outside to meet family and guests.

Regalia:  The MSU Bookstore is ready to assist you with your graduation needs, from regalia, to announcements and MSU ring.  The MSU Bookstore will be at the Imagine Graduation Fair to assist you.  For your convenience, if you miss Imagine Graduation, you may come by the bookstore or order your regalia online at through April 16, 2018.  After that date you may call the bookstore at 940-397-4303 to order and pay for regalia.  Online order information will be available in February. 

Regular bookstore hours for picking up regalia are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday.  A friend or family member may pick up your regalia for you through Friday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m.  The bookstore will also be open Commencement Saturday, May 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the shopping convenience of family and guests.  If your pre-ordered cap and gown have not been picked up by 5:00 p.m. on May 11, they will be taken to the MPEC for you to pick up.

Honors: Cords for Honor bachelor's candidates (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude) will be distributed as you line up. They are to be worn pinned to the left shoulder seam.

Dress: All graduates will wear an Academic Gown and a Mortar Board.  All tassels should be worn on the right and will be shifted to the left together, except for master's candidates who will wear their tassel on the left the entire ceremony.  Casual wear is not appropriate.  Graduates may not wear jewelry or flowers on the gown and may not carry a purse or camera.  There will be no secure place to leave valuables during the ceremony. Pin car keys to the inside of the gown if necessary.  All Master’s candidates will have hoods which they will carry on the left arm so they can be hooded during the ceremony. The hoods will be issued by the Bookstore.

Decoration of Mortar Boards: The administration has stated that mortar board decorations must adhere "flat" to the top (square portion) of the mortar board only.  Decorations are not to be placed anywhere beneath the top of the mortar board, neither attached to the cap portion supporting it, nor dangling from any part of the mortar board.

Diplomas: When you walk across the stage, you will be handed a diploma cover.  Grades for May graduates will be submitted the week following commencement.  If all of your degree requirements are completed and all financial, academic, and financial aid obligations are met, diplomas may be picked up beginning June 12, 2018. You must bring a picture I.D. If you have someone else pick up your diploma, you must send a signed authorization for us to release it to that person and they must show appropriate identification.  If you asked us to mail your diploma, it will be mailed about June 19, 2018.  Students who did not complete degree requirements will be notified by letter and email.

Photographer: The University has arranged for a photographer to take pictures as you shake hands with President Shipley and additional poses after you exit the stage. The photograph with the President is candid, so you do not have to stop to pose for that photo.  Proofs will be emailed to the email account you indicate on the line up card.  If your email or address changes, update your records in WebWorld and contact the Audit Team in the Registrar's Office at

Attendance at Commencement is a degree requirement for May graduates unless officially excused. If you are absolutely unable to be here, contact the Office of the Registrar to obtain a form to request permission to graduate in absentia.
