Course Description

This course is an introductory course in Art Appreciation.  The course is designed to expose students to the world of art including artists, art processes and media, art history, the creative process, and the elements and principles of design.  It is important that you read your book and take the tests on the correct dates, please be proactive for this course. To be successful in this class, you must be self-motivated, disciplined, and make use of 3 resources:  (1) the primary source of information is the course textbook.  I repeat:  You will not pass this course unless you buy the textbook and read it diligently.  (2) On D2L, you can access your syllabus and test schedule (this document), the 5 mandatory tests that will make up the majority of your grade, gradebook, discussion board, and email. (3) On Revel, you can access learning objectives; key concepts and a study plan for each chapter, review materials, and mandatory practice Quizzes

Course Requirements

Major Tests: 5 tests (83% of your final grade). Taken in D2L.  Each test will cover new chapters; there is no cumulative test at the end of the class. 

o   You need access to the Internet (D2L) to take the tests.

o   Tests must be taken on the assigned dates.

o   You have a 2-day window to take each examine: Thursday & Friday

o   Each test has fifty questions, all multi-choice. 

o   You have sixty minutes to complete each test: once you login you must complete the test in the time frame.  If you take longer then sixty minutes that portion of your test will not count.

 

Practice Quizzes: 27 practice tests (17% of your final grade).  Taken in Revel. You earn credit for taking the practice tests in Revel: 3.7 points for each practice test taken (grade on practice test does not count; completing the practice tests count.) There is one additional practice test that you may take for extra credit.

Once you have logged into Revel direct you attention to the upper left side headings. You will take all 27 Chapters quizzes.

Writing Proficiency Requirement

All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed the 6 hours of Communication Core and and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course. Campus Carry

Senate Bill 11 passed by the 84th Texas Legislature allows licensed handgun holders to carry concealed handguns on campus, effective August 1, 2016. Areas excluded from concealed carry are appropriately marked, in accordance with state law.
