Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the equipment and supplies required to complete a vascular-interventional procedure
  • Explain, in detail, each of the vascular-interventional procedures
  • Identify related anatomy

  1. Lab (1 of 2)
  2. Unit Exams (8 - unproctored)
  3. Diagnostic Exam (unproctored) - Up to 3 attempts permitted.
  4. Final Exam (proctored)

Submission Format Policy
Unit Exams (30%)

This course is divided into individual study units. A list of learning objectives is found at the beginning of each study unit. You should read each objective so that you'll know what you're expected to learn from that particular unit of instruction. The examinations for this course are based on those learning objectives.

After you finish a unit of instruction you should complete the review exercises found at the end of the unit. You may search through the text &/or Course Notes to find any answer. The review exercises are designed to help prepare you for the unit examinations.
A unit examination accompanies each unit of instruction. Although each unit exam may be an "open book" evaluation of the material, you should first try to answer all questions without referring to the instructional materials. Each unit examination will be graded by the computer program and your results and responses will be immediately available to you.

Labs (10%)

This course is designed to assist the student in preparation for the cardiac interventional or vascular interventional registry, this lab will provide you with an opportunity to start the clinical experiences required for registry eligibility.

All registry candidates must document performance of a minimum of 200 repetitions of vascular-interventional radiography procedures according to the criteria notedin the handbook. Procedures are documented, verified and submitted when complete via an online tool accessible through an R.T.’s My ARRT Info account on The verification process is described within the online tool.  For a complete list of the required procedures for the Vascular-Interventional registry, see the attached document below or by visiting:

The student will be required to complete two (2) procedures (one repetition each) from each category, A - E and one (1) procedure (one repetition) from category F, for a total of 11 procedures. Once the procedures have been completed & properly logged, print your log to a PDF file and upload it below.

If your goal is to take the cardiac interventional registry, candidates must document performance of a minimum of 150 repetitions of cardiac-interventional radiography procedures according to the criteria noted in the handbook. Procedures are documented, verified and submitted when complete via an online tool accessible through an R.T.’s My ARRT Info account on The verification process is described within the online tool. The student will be required to complete two (2) right heart catheterizations and ten (10) left heart catheterizations, for a total of 12 procedures.  Once the procedures have been completed & properly logged, print your log to a PDF file and upload it below.  If you prefer to log your experiences on paper, see the attached log sheets below.

If you will not be pursuing registry eligibility &/or is not interested in logging the clinical experiences, complete Alternate Lab.

ALTERNATE LAB: Create a REFERENCED, ILLUSTRATED Powerpoint slideshow or a web page of an interventional procedure from beginning to end.  It must include a detailed description of the procedure (equipment & supplies, patient preperation, step-by-step description of the procedure, post procedural care, etc.).  You must have 3-8 references (APA format) presented on the last slide or at the end of your web page.  The nature of this assignment may require you to use references that are not peer-reviewed and that is okay. Non-peer reviewed sources should be reputible (teaching/research hospitals, manufacturers, educational institutions, etc).  The use of sources such as Wikipedia is discouraged.  Keep in mind that your graphics in your web page will need to uploaded seperately and must be acknowledged (Powerpoint & web page). Diagnostic Exam (20%)

The diagnostic examination is a "closed book" examination of multiple-choice, matching, & calculation format. The diagnostic exam is an "unproctored" practice final. It is a timed exam & you will have three (3) attempts. Your grade on this exam will be based on the average score of your three attempts.

Final Exam (40%)

The final exam is a "proctored", closed book exam of similar format to the diagnostic exam. You will find the Unit Objectives, Course Notes, Reading Assignments, Review Exercises, Unit Exams, and Diagnostic Exam beneficial in preparing for the Final Exam.  All students are REQUIRED to have a webcam & microphone for the Final Exam. There is a proctoring fee of $25.00 payable when you make your reservation. SEE THE PROCTOR INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETE DETAILS.

All communications in this course, be it written (e-mail) or verbal, will be carried out in a professional and courteous manner.  You can generally expect a reply from me within 3 work days (during the summer term, MSU's work days are Monday through Thursday).  Though some may require a longer period, none should be greater than 1 week.  If you do not receive a reply after a week, resubmit your message.

Writing Proficiency Requirement

All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed the 6 hours of Communication Core and and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course.
