A Regents' Professor has made exemplary contributions in each of the three areas of teaching, research or creative work, and service and has gained the respect and admiration of colleagues in the profession. Candidates must have 15 years experience in higher education with a minimum of five years service to MSU and must hold the rank of professor. A Regents' Professor will receive an award of at least $10,000 for three consecutive years and will carry the title for life.
Selection Process: Upon the invitation of the Provost, tenured faculty members submit nominations to the Provost. Nomination letters will address in a concise manner (not more than two pages, single spaced and 12 font size), the nominee's teaching, scholarly or creative work, and service contributions. The Provost will provide to the Regents' Professor Selection Committee the nominations and vitae of those nominees who meet minimum objective requirements. During the committee's discussions, respective deans may provide annual performance reports of nominees to the other committee members. The committee will screen applications and recommend three finalists from whom the Provost and President will select the individual to be recommended to the Board of Regents for approval.
