Assistant to Director, Admissions for Special Populations
Reports to the Director of Admissions. Assists with the coordination of recruitment of special populations. Implements recruitment activities for first generation students seeking admission to Midwestern State University; develops recruitment publications; and counsels students and parents concerning enrollment. Works independently and makes recommendations regarding office policies and procedures. Assists with coordination of scheduling and hosting special events. Assists with the supervision and training of Admissions personnel. Extensive travel to include evenings and weekends.
Coordinates and assists the Director with contacting, targeting, and recruiting first generation students to enroll at Midwestern State University. Strengthens relationships with communities and organizations, school districts, and community colleges. Makes presentations in Spanish and English to counsel prospective students and their families about university enrollment. Coordinates, schedules, and hosts special events; conducts counseling sessions and campus visits with prospective students and their parents to bring prospective first generation students to campus. Presentations may be scheduled to include evenings and weekends. Creates information pieces in English and Spanish, explaining admission policies and procedures.
Must be able to drive independently and lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
One or more years experience and training in a college environment, preferably in a related area such as school relations and/or college admissions counseling and at least two years prior experience in clerical work involving a high degree of interaction with the public. Must have computer work experience with computer graphics and college publications. General skills in the use of office equipment. Public speaking experience, required.
Requires working knowledge of admission policies and procedures and residency policies, to include knowledge of admissions procedures for beginning freshmen, transfer students and re-enrolling students. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and commonly used computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Banner (student information records system) software is desirable. Must be able to maintain prospective student and applicant database.
Bachelor's degree required.

Must be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative; have strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to work with diverse populations and to work as a team member. Must be a strong, positive representative of Midwestern State University. Must be able to work evenings and weekends and hours that may exceed the regular workweek. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
