Coordinator, Graduate Student Recruitment, Admission, and Retention
Works closely with the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School (AVPAA / DGS) to coordinate the recruitment of graduate students and to create a climate conducive to success, retention, graduation, and engagement. Implements recruitment activities for graduate students seeking admission to the university; assists in developing recruitment publications; schedules and coordinates recruitment events. Works closely with graduate coordinators to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the graduate admissions office. Oversees the admission process from student inquiries through the distribution of admission reviews to graduate coordinators. Engages with prospective students to increase yield from recruitment efforts. Uses recruitment, retention, and graduation data to support recommendations for recruitment and graduate student activities and events. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment within established policies and procedures. Reports to the AVPAA / DGS.
Coordinates with the AVPAA / DGS in contacting, targeting, and recruiting graduate students to the university. Assists with the development of recruitment materials and collaborates with the AVPAA / DGS and graduate coordinators to establish policies and practices to effectively engage graduate students. Assists faculty with targeted recruitment efforts. Travels to recruit graduate students. Works with Information Technology and the Webmaster for adaption and implementation of recruitment technology. Assists in making presentations to prospective students. Works directly with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) to support program activities, such as off-campus volunteer activities, and serves as a liaison between the GSA and the Graduate School. Enters graduate student information into the university's database. Processes applications, transcripts, test scores and reviews. Appropriately responds to applications, inquiry phone calls, and emails in a timely manner. Conducts a quality assurance internal audit of student admission files once a semester. Tracks and reports student enrollment to the dean and makes monthly presentations before the Graduate Council. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Condition:
Must be able to travel and make presentations before groups. Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty pounds.
Two or more years experience in customer service, sales, marketing or social services involving a high degree of interaction with the public. Experience in a college environment such as school relations or admissions counseling is preferred. Work experience with computer graphics and publications preferred.
Thorough understanding of university admission policies, regulations, and degree requirements. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, including business English, spelling, punctuation. Requires strong written and oral communication skills. Extensive technical knowledge of various software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint and ability to generate appropriate reports from the recruitment database.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in higher education student personnel or related field is preferred and may be substituted for experience.

Requires strong interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail. Must work effectively with diverse populations. Must be well organized. Able to work independently with little supervision. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Must have the ability to speak effectively to groups and use technology in presentations. Must be a positive representative of MSU. *Must be able to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
