Residence Hall Director
Develops and maintains a residence hall environment conducive to the personal growth and academic success of the resident students. Responsibilities include ongoing student development activities, behavior management, judicial administration, building management and operations, staff training and supervision, and housing and residence life administrative functions. A full time, 12 month live-in position reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing or the Assistant Director of Residence Life & Housing.
Counsels resident students on personal and academic problems. Serves as judicial officer of the residence hall. Supervises custodians, housekeepers and student employees assigned to hall. Participates in the selection, training and supervision of RAs. Orders supplies and equipment. Advises residence hall governing council. Coordinates programming that meets the developmental needs of residents. Coordinates summer camp housing. Other duties as assigned.
Two years residence hall management experience. Preference for experience in advising student groups, experience in staff supervision and leadership development and crisis management.
The ability to manage people and resources, teach, direct, guide and mediate; counseling skills for a wide range of student and staff concerns; excellent decision-making skills; knowledge and applications of student development theories and the impact of a residential living-learning environment on student development. Maturity and ability to command respect of residents; sensitivity and skill to work with a diverse student and employee population; the ability to administer student judicial programs; the ability to work under pressure and uneven time constraints.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in college student personnel, counseling or related area preferred.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to plan and implement program and activities, Must be able to deal with stressful situations. Must have the sensitivity and skill to work with a diverse student population. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
