Admissions Assistant II
Performs complex and technical clerical work in the university’s Admissions Office. Manage receipt of high school and college transcripts and enter the transcripts into the mainframe. Provide general information about MSU to students both orally and in writing. Handle traffic at Admissions window, answer telephones and perform other duties as assigned. Performs specialized tasks involving the operation of computer terminal and word processing equipment as well as typewriters and calculators. Reports to the Director of Admissions.
Informs students about appropriate application procedures and documentation of records required to establish educational benefits. Daily input transcripts into the data base system. Daily personal, phone or written contacts with students, other members of the campus community and the general public.
Should have considerable experience with working with the public in person, by telephone, and through written memoranda or letters. Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Banner (student information records system) software and experience working in a college environment are strongly desirable.
Requires considerable knowledge and use of good written and oral communication skills. Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and commonly used office software programs. Must be able to perform 10-key by touch. Must have understanding of effective office procedures; ability to plan and manage tasks, understand and follow complex, detailed instructions, and make decisions based on standard office procedures. General knowledge of admission procedures and university policies is preferred.
High school diploma required, some college strongly preferred.
Typing test required. Ability to communicate effectively with students and maintain good relationships with the public. Must be flexible, adaptable, and cooperative. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
