Performs professional accounting work. Work involves performance of detailed assignments in classifying, posting, balancing, and recapitulating receiving and disbursing financial transactions. Works under supervision of a technical supervisor with latitude for independent judgment in accomplishment of more standardized phases of work. May plan, assign, and review work of clerical personnel maintaining financial books and records, and operating reports.
Prepares or supervises preparation of financial records or controls and operating reports such as labor, materials, and equipment rental, payrolls, personnel attendance records, stock controls, tax reports, vouchers, journals, and subsidiary ledgers. Checks clerical work in progress and audits completed work for accuracy and conformance with established procedure. Takes trial balances, reconciles accounts and bank balances and prepares or assists in preparing financial statements and operating reports. Gives technical assistance to subordinate personnel in clarifying such operating problems as allocation of income or expense, cost accounting procedures, closing, correcting or adjusting journal entries and preparation of special exhibits and schedules. May audit and approve operating reports, vouchers, claims, invoices, requisitions, estimates, purchase orders, statements, and similar records. Performs related work as assigned.
Requires one or more years accounting and business management experience.
Must have working knowledge of accepted accounting practices, legal statutes and department policy and procedure affecting financial records keeping. Some knowledge of cost and audit accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel worksheets and use of Microsoft Word for correspondence. Operate 10-key calculator by touch..
Bachelor's degree in Accounting is desirable.
Ability to work accurately with numerical detail, to perform accounting operations in neat manner and analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data in clear concise form. Ability to use computer to develop spreadsheets. Must have the ability to quickly learn the Statewide Network reporting system. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
