Title
Assistant to Director, International Education
Description
Performs responsible technical, clerical, and complex administrative duties to assist the director in overall operations of the office. Work involves planning, organizing, performing, and supervising a variety of administrative activities and may require supervision of student assistants. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment within the department's established policies and procedures. Reports to the Director of International Education.
Examples
Performs specialized tasks requiring a high level of organizational skill, typing, and the preparation of documents, and materials for distribution. Handles routine, special, and confidential correspondence in a timely and professional manner. Coordinates application documents between study abroad and university departments for Midwestern State University students as well as consortium partner institutions. Assists in all facets of application for international travel and the understanding of travel documents. May require participation in the five (5) week summer session abroad. Maintains and balances numerous operating accounts. Develops special administrative analyses and summary reports for the review of administrator on staff reports and recommendations. Compiles technical data and maintains records and controls pertaining to agency programs. Responsible for repair calls of equipment, copier maintenance and reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Condition
Sufficient dexterity, agility, and physical condition to perform routine office tasks.
Experience
Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in general office practices and procedures, preferably in a higher education environment. Experience in scheduling meetings, preparation of documents, requisitions, reports, and vouchers, required.
Knowledge
Ability to create and maintain university budgets and international budgets in selective currencies. Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate pertinent policies and procedures clearly and accurately. Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred. Graduation from high school with equivalent years' experience is acceptable.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be well organized and detail-oriented. Able to multitask, work independently, and solve complex problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, subordinates, students, and the general public.
