Title
International Services Specialist
Description
Works directly and reports to the Director of International Services. Manage the legal compliance of international students/scholars on the campus of Midwestern State University who hold either the F-1 or J-1 non-immigrant visas.
Examples
Advise and assist students, scholars and visitors in obtaining and maintaining non-immigrant status and work authorization. Prepare immigration forms for, correspond with, and forward applications to the United States Citizen and Immigration Service. Manage all SEVIS transactions; Serve as the PDSO and RO; Advise, Counsel university departments and international visitors on immigration issues. Attend NAFSA workshops and engage in continuous training on Immigration Issues.
Physical Condition
Able to travel occasionally.
Experience
At least 2 years experience in advising international students. Extensive knowledge of immigration law and procedures pertaining to international students. Direct previous experience using SEVIS. Must be able to have a clear, fluid, discussion on immigration law and applications pertaining to F-1 and J-1 students. Managerial experience. Must be very computer and internet savvy; at ease with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
Knowledge
Immigration Laws and Procedures pertaining to SEVIS transactions and F-1 and J-1 Students/Scholars. Research ability pertaining to job description. Some knowledge of international school systems. Facility in a foreign language helpful but not essential. Knowledge of other cultures important.
Education
A bachelor's degree is required. MA or equivalent is preferred.
Additional Requirements
SEVIS experience is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public relations skills. Must observe confidentiality with clients. Be very polite and student friendly and able to work with colleagues in a team environment. Must be comfortable with, and understanding of other cultures. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.

Title
International Services Specialist
Description
Responsible for providing specialized guidance to international students regarding immigration documents, 1-20, DS-2019. Handles OPT and CPT, maintains SEVIS database, including alerts and compliance. Assists in H1-B and other filings for international staff and faculty. Reports to the Director of International Services.
Examples
Responds to applicants. Advises international students on applicable laws and taxes, conducts periodic orientations and meetings on immigration requirements. Corresponds with prospective students and assists in the international recruiting process and fundraising. Assists in counseling students on academic requirements, financial planning, and legal compliance. Assists with organizing orientations.
Physical Condition
Should be able to drive students to various government offices as needed.
Experience
Must have experience in working with a diverse group, assisting with adjustment issues, and respecting different cultures and their beliefs.
Knowledge
Must have extensive knowledge of immigration laws and procedures. Knowledge of international educational systems, particularly the British system, is also preferred. Must have SEVIS experience and previous experience as a DSO/RO. Advanced skills in the use of personal computers and commonly used computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Prefer knowledge of Banner software.
Education
Bachelor's degree in arts and sciences, business, humanities, counseling, or behavioral sciences, required. Master's degree in related field is preferred.
Additional Requirements
Must be well organized and able to effectively communicate with one-on-one and with large groups. Must be able to work discreetly with students on sensitive and confidential issues. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Requires a valid Texas driver's license. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
