Title
Publications Specialist
Description
Conceives, organizes, and designs a variety of publications (print and electronic) to include collaborating with clients to identify design products needed. Distributes and provides quality assurance of MSU graphics and graphics identity, and any designed printed, graphic, or visual work. Also aids numerous campus offices with design, graphics, and photo usage, commercial printing, software, and hardware related graphics work. Reports to the Director of Marketing and Public Information.
Examples
Creates print advertisements and coordinates various production requirements to ensure advertisements reach publishers in timely manner. Designs flyers, posters, postcards brochures for various campus activities and departments. Performs research for ideal images and makes proper preparations for print and electronic publications. Determines preliminary pricing and prepares appropriate requisition forms for publications. Researches and reviews opportunities for the university to expand communications through new mediums such as social networking. Serves as managing editor of Sunwatcher magazine to coordinate and edit stories, headlines and photos. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition
Experience
Three years related experience required. Experience in prepress workflow and creating files for commercial printing or equivalent experience is required. Documented portfolio of design work produced.
Knowledge
Must possess good editing and proofreading skills. Requires good public relations skills, Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Education
Bachelor's degree in commercial art, design, advertising or related field, required.
Additional Requirements
Ability to handle multiple tasks in an extremely busy office. Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to solve complex problems and to work independently with little supervision. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
