Manager, Grounds and Custodial Services
Provides direction and quality control standards for all tasks assigned to the grounds and custodial departments. Ensures preventative maintenance procedures are carried out on a scheduled basis. Assists with the planning and determination of required resources for effective management of the operations for the MSU campus. Oversees campus projects including landscaping, interiors, and some building projects. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Services.
Oversees day to day operations of building and landscaping maintenance. Reviews campus grounds and buildings for potential aesthetic improvements and directs needed changes. Makes regular and frequent visits to work sites to inspect and solve problems. Reviews work requests and assigns tasks to appropriate area. Assists supervisors in determining material and supply requirements, as well as the purchasing of these items. Actively participates in hiring decisions, dismissals, and disciplinary reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition
Moderate physical activity required with occasional lifting of objects weighing more than fifty pounds. Must be able to crawl, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
Five or more years of general facilities management required. Experience in custodial cleaning methods, grounds maintenance, and construction projects required. Experience working in a university environment is preferred.
Knowledge: Requires extensive knowledge of site management, custodial and grounds trades, and institutional maintenance. Extensive knowledge of building maintenance methods, construction methods and materials, preventative maintenance requirements, work scheduling, and quality control methods. Thorough knowledge of techniques relevant to crew organization and team management. Knowledge of use, care, and repair of tools, equipment, power vehicles, materials, methods, practices, and techniques used in general custodial, grounds maintenance, and athletic fields' maintenance. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to perform work analysis, budget functions, planning, and communication.
Graduation from high school or equivalent along with training or experience related to the field of work. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Must be an effective organizer and performance evaluator. Must have strong leadership, excellent written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal and motivation skills. Must have the ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, and customers. Skill in planning and effectively managing multiple projects to completion. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *An employment physical examination is required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
