Title
Postal Clerk
Description
Routine and repetitive clerical work involving the collection, sorting, and distribution of intra-campus mail and outgoing U.S. mail to university departments. Work involves coverage of all mail collection and distribution points on a regular schedule. Responsible for the prompt pickup and delivery of mail and for safeguarding mail in his/her possession. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Reports to the Postal Services Supervisor.
Examples
Collects outgoing U.S. mail and campus mail from university offices, and carries it to the campus mail room. Sorts United States and campus mail. Delivers campus mail to various distribution points. May assist with the preparation and dispatch of third-class bulk mail. May drive vehicle on campus mail route.
Physical Condition
Good physical condition, stamina to walk distances, and sufficient strength to lift and carry mail bags and packages. Must be able to carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
Experience
Six months of experience as a mail clerk or in general clerical work.
Knowledge
Working knowledge of postal practices, methods, and regulations. Must possess or be able to learn kinds and prices of postage. Ability to learn the faculty and staff members' work locations. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Education
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Additional Requirements
Must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to read and write legibly. Ability to remember names, titles, and locations of all faculty and staff and changes in personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a valid Texas Driver's License. *Requires an employment physical. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
