Practice Areas

This page includes a brief list of the various areas of practice handled by the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of Midwestern State University (MSU).

The OGC’s practice areas include:

  • Providing legal counsel in a wide variety of areas including academic and student affairs; compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and University policies; general contracts (draft/review) and purchasing, including real estate and construction; emergency and risk management and insurance; ethics and conflicts of interest; gifts and development; intellectual property; personnel and employment issues; and University governance issues, including assisting in the development, preparation and implementation of board and institutional rules and administrative procedures.
  • Researching and formulating legal interpretations of and providing guidance on various laws, regulations, and issues affecting the University.
  • Handling administrative matters before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and other federal and state governmental agencies, including reviewing and responding to public information requests.
  • Coordinating with the Texas Attorney General’s Office on litigation by or against the University.
