Apply For Financial Aid Earlier Than Ever Before

Upcoming changes will affect the 2017-18 financial aid application process. To better prepare you for Fall 2017 / Spring 2018 / Summer 2018 semesters, read this important information:

Submit a FAFSA® Earlier:
You will be able to file your 2017–18 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016, instead of having to wait until January 1, 2017. This is referred to as “Early FAFSA”.

  • Remember, the 2017-18 FAFSA application will be available at on/after October 1.
  • After submission of your FAFSA on October 1 or thereafter, we can begin processing your FAFSA in mid-November, 2016 and will advise you immediately if additional information is needed.

Use Earlier Income Information:
You will provide income information from one tax year earlier. This means the 2017–18 FAFSA will collect 2015 income information rather than having to submit  the FAFSA application with income estimates that may need correcting, or worse, waiting until the previous year’s tax return has been filed. This is referred to as “Prior-Prior Year”.

  • If you have already submitted your 2015 income information (ie: tax transcript) with the 2016-17 FAFSA, we will use the same tax transcript(s) for the 2017-18 FAFSA.
  • However, you may be required to submit other income information, such as verification worksheet, child support documentation, etc.; you will be advised if such information is needed.

Receive Your Award Notification Earlier:
Early FAFSA and Prior-Prior-Year will allow faster and easier submission of your 2017-18 FAFSA application which, in turn, will allow us to determine your financial aid eligibility earlier as well. We anticipate 2017-18 awarding to begin in February 2017 instead of April 2017.
