Responsible for providing direct, quality medical care to students with emphasis on preventive medicine, health promotion/education and ambulatory general medicine. Reports to the Dean of University Wellness / Director of Recreational Sports.
Examines students as patients in the Vinson Health Center on a daily basis; prescribes medications and other treatments; makes referrals; maintains accurate records; and works closely with the Director of Student Medical Service to develop, implement and maintain educational programs that promote life-long good health practices.
Three or more years of residency training in family practice, internal medicine, gynecology, or pediatrics; or four or more years experience in general medicine is desired. Previous experience as a practicing physician in a primary care setting with adolescents/young adults is desirable.
Must be knowledgeable in routine out-patient management to include minor surgery and minor orthopedics. Should also be knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and common office computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas or attain licensure in the State of Texas following offer of employment. Emphasis is on preventive medicine, health promotion/education and ambulatory general medicine. Board certification/eligibility in family practice, internal medicine, gynecology, or pediatrics is preferred.
Must be a student-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills; a commitment to providing quality medical services; and the ability to establish good working relationships with other members of the health center staff and the University community at large. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
