Title: PC / Network Services Manager
Description: Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, confers with University faculty and administrative staff to define microcomputer and networking needs. Coordinates and manages all University general access computer laboratories to include laboratory staffing. Coordinates and manages maintenance of University owned personal computer and networking equipment. Coordinates and manages installation and maintenance of University site-licensed personal computer software. Maintain budgetary information and standards for large enterprise class network and varied client computing platforms including hardware and software.
Examples: Responsible for microcomputer hardware and software installation and support services to include microcomputer hardware and/or software problem determination and resolution. Responsible for enterprise-wide networking services and support to include hardware, software, and cabling. Assist in providing microcomputer application software training for faculty and staff. Perform other duties as defined by the management.
Physical Condition: Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Experience: At least 5 years work experience in personal computing and network management support with strong emphasis on system integration and network engineering. At least 3 years experience in management, direction of staff, and major projects. Prefer college degree, however, technical training and a strong background in microcomputer hardware installation and repair as well as broad networking knowledge is acceptable. Strong background in microcomputer and network software installation and troubleshooting. Technical training in and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, and Advanced Server based networks. Working knowledge of the installation and maintenance of active networking gear, various IEEE wiring standards, and fiber cabling.
Knowledge: Knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software installation and repair. Knowledge Microsoft Windows server operating systems, and various Unix platforms. Installation/maintenance of twisted-pair, fiber optic cable, coax, and WiFi connectivity. Strong scheduling, project management and planning skills.
Education: Prefer college degree; however, high school graduation with heavy experience in the specific job areas is acceptable. Considerable specialized training in personal computers/network hardware and software installation and troubleshooting or equivalent experience. Technical training in the installation and maintenance of coax, twisted-pair and fiber optic cable.
Additional Requirements: Network and server management, PC repair and maintenance. Network design and cable plant maintenance. Switch and router installation and maintenance. Ability to install fiber optic cable, 10/100/1000bT, 10b5 and crawlspace punch block work. Lead team of Network Technicians in support of campus needs and requirements. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
