Title: Stockroom Manager/Inventory Coordinator
Description: Responsible to the Department Chair of Chemistry, Geosciences and Physics for managing chemical laboratory inventories and for ensuring that all hazardous materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Reports the Chemistry Department Chair.
Examples: Performs all duties necessary to manage and maintain a chemical laboratory stockroom, to include purchasing, shipping/receiving, distribution, and inventory control of all chemicals used by the Chemistry and/or Geology Department for instructional purposes. Also responsible for general laboratory cleanliness and for ensuring that Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are received for each chemical delivered and for maintaining computerized MSDS database. Ensures that the disposal of all chemicals is conducted in a manner consistent with all rules and regulations applicable to the disposal of hazardous material as prescribed by the university environmental safety coordinator. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition: Must be able to work with and around chemicals. Requires manual dexterity and mobility required in order to operate equipment and machinery and to reach storeroom shelves. Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Experience: Experience working in a chemical laboratory environment and with chemistry teaching and research faculty is desirable.
Knowledge: Strong knowledge of chemicals and equipment. Good writing skills and ability to use computer for word processing and to create spreadsheets and databases.
Education: Baccalaureate degree in chemistry required. RCRA Certification desired.
Additional Requirements: Must have good organizational skills and be able to work with students. Ability to communicate well with faculty and vendors, both verbally and in written reports. Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires an employment physical exam. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
