Title: Librarian, Information Services/ Reference
Description: Reports to the University Librarian and the Associate University Librarian. Coordinates services in the library’s Reference Department and Information Literacy Program. Responsible for materials selection for reference; information literacy instruction; scheduling desk hours; hiring and training student workers in the department; instructing public services librarians in the use of electronic resources; and overseeing computer database search services.
Examples: Provides effective leadership in services; continually evaluates services; adopts new policies and procedures in response to evolving needs of students, faculty, and staff. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with librarians who manage other reference points of service within the library and participates actively in committees and collaborative initiatives with faculty and staff throughout the campus. Participates in an instruction program that emphasizes critical thinking skills and integration of digital and print resources and works with teaching faculty to advance the library’s teaching mission. Serves as a backup to Voyage Systems Administrator and as research partner for the College of Nursing.
Physical Condition:
Experience: Two years of post-MLS experience in an academic library is preferred with responsible management experience in the area of information and reference services.
Knowledge: Familiarity with emerging technologies and their potential to enhance library services. Technical expertise and knowledge of reference and research tools. Ability to develop and teach academic courses. Proficient in Microsoft computer applications.
Education: Requires a graduate degree in library or information science and a strong background in at least one liberal arts academic subject.
Additional Requirements: Strong interpersonal communications skills; ability to work with a minimum of supervision; attention to detail; ability to interact with a variety of clients. Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with faculty and to promote the services offered by Moffett Library. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *May be required to work some evenings and/or weekends in a non-traditional schedule. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
