Title: Director, Board and Government Relations
Description: The Director of Board and Government Relations provides support to the university president in matters related to legislative issues; maintains effective relationships with public officials and their staff; and conducts research and analysis on legislative issues. This individual serves as Staff Secretary to the Midwestern State University Board of Regents; oversees all operational and administrative matters for the Board of Regents; and handles a wide range of issues on behalf of the board. The Director of Board and Governmental Relations reports to the university president.
Examples: Serves as the liaison to public officials and their staff on behalf of the university. Coordinates the development and preparation of the Board of Regents agendas and meetings and maintains all formal records and archives for the Board of Regents. Serves as the universityís liaison with the Office of the Attorney General and Outside Counsel concerning legal matters and participates with the president and other senior officers in institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution. Participates in various committees and professional organizations and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition: Must be able to travel extensively.
Experience: Two to five years of related professional and management experience.
Knowledge: Must possess extensive knowledge of the protocols and procedures of the Texas legislative process. Requires knowledge of university rules, regulations and procedures; and open meetings rules and regulations. Requires a high degree of skill and knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Excellent use of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Education: Bachelorís degree required. Masterís preferred.
Additional Requirements: Requires frequent travel. Must possess outstanding people skills. Must be detail-oriented with exceptional decision-making skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively. A high level of diplomacy and confidentiality is required as well as advanced verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
