Title: Electrician I
Description: Routine electrical work, involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and appliances. Work is performed under general supervision of the Electrical Foreman. Work requires climbing, heavy lifting, and crawling through tunnels and attics. Danger from high voltage and exposure in inclement weather are environmental factors. The employee in this position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Examples: Installs, maintains, and repairs all electrical service lines, and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and replaces transformers, motors, automatic switches, circuit breakers, buzzers, clocks, and bells. Traces short circuits, overloads, and blown fuses. Uses voltmeters, ampmeters, and other test equipment, as well as electric drills, lathe and hand tools of the electrical trade.
Physical Condition: Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Requires employment physical exam.
Experience: Two years of experience as an electrician.
Knowledge: Knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical trade. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Skill in using the standard tools and equipment of the electrical trade. Skill in locating and correcting defects in electrical systems and equipment. Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
Education: Graduation from high school or vocational school.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to operate power tools and hand tools, climb ladders, drive all types of vehicles, and have a valid driver's license. Must be able to read blue prints, schematics and follow directions. Working in high locations and lifting moderate to heavy equipment and materials is required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires physical examination. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
