Title: Television Technical Assistant
Description: Performs television duties that are required for the daily operation of the on-campus TV station. Includes inventory of tapes/DVDs, traffic of equipment, coordinating with the maintenance engineer who repairs the equipment and reports status to the mass communications faculty who use the studio as well as the Office of Public Information and the Office of the President. Assists students in the performance of their lab work, as well as monitors all conditions between student needs and hardware. Reports directly to the Chair, Mass Communications department under the general supervision of the Dean of Fine Arts.
Examples: Logs, inventories, and dubbing. Performs checks on status of all equipment for problems. Tapes as required for mass communication faculty. Coordinates programming with the Office of Public Information and Marketing. Monitors student assistants and works with students who are completing class projects. Helps with weekly campus newscast and troubleshoots problems that arise when programs are aired. Performs other duties as needed on production days.
Physical Condition: Moderate physical activity necessary to perform the functions of the position.
Experience: One year of television experience required, with a basic understanding of some engineering principles helpful. Camera proficiency and editing and audio experience is necessary. Must have some experience in typing and use of computers.
Knowledge: Proficiency in all areas of analog and digital technology. A working knowledge of camera usage, linear and non-linear video editing, audio, lighting and directing. Skills to install, maintain, and repair broadcast television equipment. Ability to use a personal computer.
Education: College degree in some aspect of media is preferable, high-school degree and some college required.
Additional Requirements: Ability to organize time efficiently. Must be able to work with students and faculty in a professional manner. Creativity. Ability to interact with a variety of colleagues to complete projects in a timely manner. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
