Title: Library Assistant I
Description: Performs specialized work involving the application of standard library techniques and procedures of limited complexity. Employees of this class perform varied tasks in connection with the daily operation of the Library. Work is usually performed under supervision, according to established practices and routines and is subject to review while in process and upon completion.
Examples: Assists at the circulation desk, charges and discharges books, renews books, collects and records fines, and assists in book inventory on a periodic basis. Assists faculty and students in the use of the Library. Assists in preparing books and magazines for binding. Checks books received with purchase orders, order cards, and invoices. Does bibliographic checking as required. Posts subscription records when periodicals are received and reports missing issues or damaged copies. Types book orders, and other forms of library record keeping through computerized workfiles.
Physical Condition:
Experience: One year of experience in general office and clerical work, including experience with office computer applications.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of simple library routines. Some knowledge of library methods and procedures. Ability to deal tactfully with library patrons and other staff members in routine contact. Skill in the use of computer applications.
Education: Graduation from a standard high school.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to type and use a computer efficiently. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
